The idea
The idea to implement Vinterveko has been around for some time and is further developed in 2007. At this stage Ekstremsportveko has become a renowned and popular festival internationally as well as in Norway, and The Ekstreme Voss Foundation has identified a potential in creating a winter festival as well. Why only have summer time fun?

2007
The first edition of Vinterveko is held in beautiful weather with approximately 50 athletes. No competitions are on the agenda this year, and the sport program consists of social gatherings in back country skiing, paragliding, skydiving and kiting. The festival program is held at Voss Rafting Centre with Combo Candombe playing salsa tunes for happy athletes.

2008
Speedriding becomes an official part of the sport program and people were amazed to see athletes fly and ski down steep mountainsides. 2008 is the year when the weather gods are not on our side and most of the sport program is cancelled due to heavy precipitation and strong winds. However, the festival program is a huge success, with Today´s Video and the reggae band Rub a Dubs creating an electric atmosphere at the Hanguren restaurant.

2009
The sport program at Vinterveko expands even more with the Norwegian Cup in Freeride (NFC) on the agenda. Vinterveko is one of four arenas for NFC, and 90 top athletes show high skills and courage in the spectacular mountainsides by Voss Resort. The third edition of Vinterveko is omce more graced by beautiful weather and the festival program takes place at Fleischer´s Hotel with Norwegian disco pop comets Monteè rocking the crowd.

2010
The winter 2010 Voss has abnormally low temperatures and little precipitation. The lack of snow, high avalanche danger and unfavourable wind creates some difficulties to execute parts of the sports program. We manage to find solutions for most sports and the competitions are held in somewhat varying conditions. The sponsors for the event are Voss Resort, Voss Fjellandsby, Bula, One Call and Nissan. Hordaland Fylkeskommune financially supports the festival (75 000 NOK) and Voss Freeride is broadcasted on NRK1 for the first time! The festival program takes place in Fraktgodsen, with a "feitameita" lounge and happy friends dancing to The Soul Express Orchestra.

2011
Vinterveko is renamed as powder week! Tons of precipitation prior to the event makes Voss one of the most attractive skiing destinations in Europe! The sport program expands with two new and exciting competitions: Myrkdalen OppNed and Backcountry Jam. The competitions are held with huge success and both events have a great potential in the future. However, the amount of snow makes the avalanche danger so high that Voss Freeride is cancelled, but the freeriders are happy to explore the terrain around Voss. The sponsors for Vinterveko are One Call (main sponsor), Bula and Visit Voss. Voss Kommune financially supports the festival (100 000 NOK) and Vinterveko is broadcasted on NRK3, NRK2 and NRK Vestlandsrevyen. The Today´s Video crew creates a Today´s Video which is mindblowing for the crowd and Admiral P warms up the crowd with his happy tunes.
